Not eating meat for a year has certainly been a welcome change for my body, but I will readily admit that there is one thing I really miss. Pork. Whether it's bacon, pulled pork, pork tenderloin, pork chops, or ribs... that taste really can't be duplicated by a soy product. Or so I thought!
We picked up some Gardenburger BBQ Riblets from Trader Joe's last week, and decided to try them for lunch today. Yes, I had flashbacks of McRib sandwiches looking at the package. But they were worth a try, at least they aren't made from mystery meat. They come 2 to a box, sealed in plastic pouches with a nice smoky bbq sauce. You put a few slits in the pouch, and microwave until hot. We had ours on toasted ciabatta bread... and I've got to be honest folks, they were GOOD!
They taste so much like pulled pork that I was taken aback, a friend said 'These are really meatless?!?'. The bbq sauce is a nice blend of sweet and smoky, and the riblets would be excellent grilled alongside some corn on the cob and maybe some baked beans. I highly recommend this product, perfect for summer!
